ITINERARY

Day 1: Fly into Denver
Your Western Train Tour begins! Depart from the most convenient departure location available and fly to Denver, Colorado. Enjoy a day in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains meeting the tour director and seeing the sights. Check into our lodging and have a relaxing night as we prepare for our train trip to the west tomorrow!

Day 2: All Aboard!

Board the California Zephyr Amtrak Train that will take us west from Denver, Colorado through small mountain towns and over the rugged Rocky Mountains for the next two days. Enjoy all of our meals included, panorama car scenic views and more during this trip over the biggest mountain ranges in the United States. Lodging on the train are the deluxe rooms with bathroom and shower in each room.

Day 3: Arriving into Reno/Tahoe

Arrive into Reno, Nevada ‘The Biggest Little City in the World’ this evening. We won’t stay long though as we make our way to the beautiful city of South Lake Tahoe for an afternoon cruise of California’s most famous freshwater lake. Spend the evening next to Heavenly Ski Resort, a magical place to be in the fall.

Day 4: Napa and Sonoma Valley
California wines are known throughout the world as unique and delicious. Enjoy seeing the fully functional vineyard as we tour and taste wines at Benziger Winery. After lunch in Sonoma we’ll spend some time in downtown Napa to explore the town; we finish our day with an included dinner downtown. Spend our evening in Napa and travel into San Francisco tomorrow morning!

Day 5: San Francisco

Depart the hills of Napa today and arrive into the ‘City by the Bay,’ San Francisco, by late morning. Get to know the city and see highlights like Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, Twin Peaks, and Market Street. We’ll travel out to the best-known prison in the United States, Alcatraz, for the afternoon. Finish you evening on Pier 39 for dinner and free time on your own.

Day 6: Roaring Camp Steam Train

Have some free time this morning then travel south to the Roaring Camp Steam Train in Fenton, California for our last train leg of the tour. Travel through Redwood trees and learn the history of this historical steam train. Later we’ll arrive into Monterey, a picturesque community that sits on the ocean and is home to Pebble Beach Golf Course. We’ll travel the beautiful ‘17-mile drive’ that wraps around the posh golf community in Pebble Beach and spend the next two nights in Monterey. Dinner is on your own tonight.

Day 7: Monterey

Today is a leisurely day in one of the calmest West Coast cities in the United States. For the morning we’ll check out the aquarium on a self-guided tour then enjoy some free time and lunch at historical Cannery Row. Tour the Carmel Mission Basilica Museum in the afternoon and finish off the day with an included dinner.

Day 8: Big Sur and Hearst Castle

We make our way south down through the awesome Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park en route to the world-renowned Hearst Castle. Newspaper magnate William Henry Hearst owned this massive mansion until his death in 1951. The incredible estate boasts many features including beautiful architecture and if we’re lucky, ZEBRAS (descendants from the Hearst private zoo)! Finish up the day at our hotel just an hour’s drive south.

Day 9: Los Angeles

Coming to the end of the trip brings us to the ‘City of Angels’ in Los Angeles, California. We’ll arrive before lunch then pick up our local guide who will bring us around the city to sights like Grauman’s Chinese Theater, the Walk of Fame and many others. Enjoy a farewell dinner this evening and prepare to fly home tomorrow.

Day 10: Fly Home

Wake to get to the airport today and fly home. We made some incredible memories through California, Colorado, and Nevada over the last 10 days. Hopefully this isn't your last vacation with Bluebird Guided Tours. We had a great time, see you again soon!
